Old School House staff member Jazz Atkinson wins Apprentice of the year 2012
Jazz Atkinson is pictured receiving the Cambridge Regional College, Care, Health and Early Years apprenticeship shield for 2012 from programme area manager Judith Ward. Jazz,17, completed her full framework whilst working at the Old School House Day Nursery in Stetchworth, the same nursery she attended as an 18month baby in 1996.
Manager Lisa Weston praised Jazz’s professional practice and said “This is particularly exciting as Jazz was one of our original babies to attend The Old School House nearly 20 years ago, it is wonderful that she has now become a key member of the staff team. Jazz commented “I loved being here as a child, I have such great memories,” and added, “even more so now I`m working as part of the team and being able to gain a qualification at the same time.”The apprenticeship framework is demanding and includes a level 2 certificate for the children and young people’s workforce; level 1 functional skills in both English and Maths as well as a certificate in employer rights and responsibilities. Jazz was nominated alongside trainee dental nurses, nursery workers and care workers and it was her positive attitude that set her apart from the other nominees.
Apprenticeships are an excellent way of gaining qualifications and work experience enabling students to earn as they learn. The Old School House apprenticeship programme is delivered in partnership with Cambridge Regional College.
